How & Why We Do
What We Do
The famous moves from the Karate Kid movies- “wax on, wax off, “paint the
fence, paint the house”; or from the latest “take the jacket off, put the jacket
on” are the basis of our martial art.
This style of martial arts doesn’t depend on brute force or physical
strength for a person to effectively defend themselves. With our circular blocks
anyone can successfully redirect an attack.
At East West Karate our goal is to help develop effective life skills and
better people not just people who can punch & kick.
The Student Creed emphasizes these life skills.
· Developing
ourselves in a positive manner and avoiding things that are bad for us both
mentally AND physically.
· Developing
self discipline; doing the right things for the right reasons, not because
someone made us.
· The
fact that this IS a martial art; we don’t go out and beat people up just because
we can.
· Respect-for
Mom, Dad, & Grandparents etc.
We hold testing for belts/stripes every month. When the student receives
a stripe on their belt or a new belt they feel a great sense of accomplishment &
their self confidence grows.
This also allows us as parents to make sure they are
behaving properly. Before they can test each month, Mom and/or Dad has to sign
our Intent To Promote form saying that their child has been behaving at home &
doing their chores. Their teacher at school also has to sign the form stating
the same types of things. If there are no behavioral issues; everyone signs the
form & the student gets to test.
However, if there are behaviors going on you are not happy with, rather
than punish a bad behavior we can offer them the opportunity to change the
behavior. Students always want to test for the next rank, so you will see this
magical change in behavior, you will get to sign the form and we then reward
them for making that change & behaving properly.
For the Adults we use Lessons In Mindfulness. This a program designed to
help us be able to reduce stress in our lives, focus more fully on what we are
doing when we are doing it and being able to relax more fully when the
opportunity presents.
We have classes 6 days a week for children and adults. We don’t limit the
number of classes that a student can attend, so if a student is really enjoying
themselves and wants to be here 3,4,5 or even 6 days per week, they are allowed
to do that. No matter how many days a week you attend, you can flex the schedule
in any way that works for you and
your family.
The best way to get started? Our Introductory Programs. For the
traditional karate:2 private classes and a FREE uniform for $29.95. For Thai
Kickboxing/Yoga/Tai Chi we offer a free introductory class. The Introductory
Program allows you try us out with no commitment, lets us evaluate the student
to see how they will do in our program and also serves as an orientation, so
that when you get into regular classes, you can follow along more easily.
If you have further questions or would like to book an Introductory class
